UNO will host a free ACT Workshop on December 7th on the Lakefront Campus in room 165.  If you want to improve your test scores, don’t miss this workshop!  You can call (504) 280-1206 or email cheaton@uno.edu for more information. Other available dates are Feb. 1st, March 29th, and June 7th.

Currently there are 8 scholarships available in guidance, check guidance for details:
1)  Horatio Alger Louisiana Scholarship  - deadline is October 30th
2)  Coca Cola Scholarship - deadline is October 31st
3)  SAE Engineering Scholarship - deadline is December 1st
4)  NFIB Young Entrepreneur Scholarship - deadline is December 15th
5)  ELKS Most Valuable Student Scholarship(new) deadline is January 9th
6)  Louisiana Smart Start Scholarship - deadline is February 1st
7)  Business Women’s Scholarship - deadline is March 1st
8)  Hero for Life Scholarship - deadline is May 1st

Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship
The Elks Lodge is looking for a High School Senior who displays scholarship, leadership, and financial need.  You can apply at www.elks,org/enf/scholars or pick up an application in guidance.  Applications must be mailed by January 9, 2009.

SAE Engineering Scholarship must be interested in the field of engineering and related sciences.  Apply online at www.sae.org/students/engschlr.htm deadline is December 1st.  

Coca-Cola Scholarship must have a minimum gpa of 3.0.  Apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org deadline is October 31st.

Louisiana Smart Start Scholarship  Deadline is Feb. 1st
1) Must be African American
2)  Have a minimum of a B average and ACT score of 19
3)  Demonstrate financial need
4)  Can major in any discipline except: Life sciences or fine arts
5)  Legal citizen

Hero for Life Scholarship qualifications are a 3.0 GPA and participation in a minimum of two blood drives through blood donation and/or volunteer support.

FREE ACT WORKSHOP
October 19, December 7, February 1, March 29, and June 7

All ACT Prep Workshops are from 2-4pm and will take place at UNO in Milneburg Hall room 165.  You must register online at www.admissions.uno.edu and click on EVENT RESERVATIONS.  Any questions contact the guidance office.

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Scholarship:
   To qualify you must be a student who demonstrates entrepreneurial spirit by:  starting his/her own business; participating in organizations such as DECA, COE, FFA or FBLA.  An officially established business is not a requirement.  To apply go to www.NFIB.com/YEA and for more information pick up a packet
in the guidance office. Applications are accepted from October 15, 2008 – December 15, 2008

Seniors who have accumulated a B average should apply for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award Program.  The link to the online application is available at the website of www.wendyheisman.com .The link will ask them who will review their application and they should put Pam Mayet pmayet@tpsd.org   If they have any questions they can see me in the guidance office.  All Seniors who participate in a sport and have a B average are eligible.  Please pass on the information to your athletes.

Students, Teachers, Coaches, Administrators, Players, Fans, Parents, and More:  There is a premiere online destination for local high school sports information for every sport and best of all you can win a $500 scholarship by submitting the winning pieces of work.  The Fall scholarships will be presented in December and the Spring scholarships will be presented in May.  The only requirement is the work has to be original you can submit update photos, videos, and articles on your sport team.  Go to www.hsgametime.com

All scholarship applications may turned in to Mrs. Mayet in guidance by the deadline day.  No applications accepted past the stated deadline. All college applications for admissions and scholarships may be filled out on line.  See Mrs. Mayet in guidance for any questions.



     There is a college search website which also offers a scholarship on the website www.anycollege.net.  The scholarships are given away randomly to college bound students regardless of GPA or test scores.  To enter, students simply need to go to www.anycollege.net and click on the "Win a Scholarship" button.  After filling out a short application form, students can click on the "Submit Form" button and they are automatically registered for $1,000 scholarship.
