The IPAQ 3900 Series
The 3900 series is an improvement on the
3800 series primarily due to its transflective screen, more RAM (64MB),
and its faster CPU. The transflective screen is backlit (for easier
viewing indoors), but it also reflects ambient light to allow you to see
it clearly outdoors in sunlight. |
|
While the 3800 series
uses the StrongARM 206 MHz CPU, the 3900 series uses the new (2002) X-scale
CPU (PXA 250) by Intel running at 400 MHz. The 3950/3955 model has
32MB of ROM. The 3970/3975 also has integrated Bluetooth technology
and 48 MB of ROM. Both have a slot for SD cards.
NOTE: Data Harvest's device
requires a CF slot. If you have a PC card expansion pack, you can
still use CF card/devices with an CF-PC adapter. |

| So, what do we have here in Terrebonne
Parish? We have Ipaq 3950s and 2210s.
You may have also gotten a PC Card Expansion pack (with the 3950), an SD
card, a keyboard, a case, and/or probes. |
Ipaq 3950
As previously noted, the Iqap 3950 is a Pocket
PC computer ... more powerful than the desktop Compaqs distributed in classrooms
just a few years ago. It's CPU runs at 400 MHz. It comes with
64 MB of RAM for programs and storage. The built-in software (such
as the operating system) is stored on a 32 MB ROM chip. Although
this built-in software uses most of that 32 MB, there is still 6.3 MB of
storage space left on it that you can use. This is useful to store
important items, since a reset will not erase data on the ROM chip.
The first screen you see on startup is called
the Today screen. It is the equivalent of a normal computer's desktop.
The top bar usually will display the name of the running program to the
left (Start, when you're at the Today screen). To the right you will
see the volume control and time. When you are running a program,
an X or OK will appear in the extreme upper right. Note that even
when you click on the X, the program doesn't shut down (as it does on your
desktop). It is minimized. If you want to see what programs
are currently running at any time, go to: Start
- Settings - System - Memory - Running Programs. If
you feel that having programs open slowing you down, then you can close
them from that screen. Also, many programs can be closed by selecting
Ctrl-Q from the keyboard while that program is active.
For more information on Ipaq operation, including
a couple of free programs that allow more control over the title bar, check
out the Tips page.
