S.T.H.S. Code of Conduct

I.  Conduct in the Building
  1. For safety and ease in movement, all traffic in the building should be directed toward the right.  This includes the use of hallways, doors and stairways.
2. The period of time between classes is for students to move from one class to another, get water, and use the restroom.  Students should not loiter in the hallways at any time or go to their lockers.
3. At the beginning of lunch hour and the end of the school day, students are to clear the upstairs hallways by the time the tardy bell sounds.
4. Before school, the stairway nearest the cafeteria is to be used when going to the library which will open at 7:00 A.M.  Lockers and second floor restrooms are off limits.
5. At lunch, students are to exit the building by way of the auditorium and old gym stairways only.  If detention hall is open, students should use the stairway nearest the cafeteria to get to Room 205.
6. During the changing of classes and at the end of the day, students may use all available stairways.
7. Students must have an official hall pass in order to travel through the upstairs hallways during class-time, before and after school, and during lunchtime.  Students must also have a school ID.
8. Running in the building is strictly prohibited.
9. Students should refrain from yelling and making loud noises.
10. Students are not allowed to consume food or beverages in the building.
11. Gum chewing is not allowed in the building.
12. On days when the old gym is open to students, you must be seated in the stands and follow all rules pertaining to conduct within the building.
II.  Conduct Outside
13. Students are to remain in designated areas.  This includes the shelter area and quadrangle.  Parking lots, the area behind the band hall and athletic building are off limits.
14. Students are not permitted to stand or congregate in the driveways at anytime.  Also, students should not sit on curbs with legs extended on the driveway for the obvious safety reasons.  Students are not the approach vehicles.
15. Assemblies are frequently scheduled as part of the curriculum and are designed to provide educational experiences and/or entertaining activities.  Assemblies provide an opportunity to learn and practice formal audience behavior.  The student body is expected to be respectful, appreciative, and courteous, regardless of the type of program as performers are very conscious of their audience.  Talking, whispering, eating, whistling, stamping of feet, and booing are discourteous and will not be tolerated.  Yelling is appropriate only at pep rallies.  Applause at an assembly should be in keeping with the type of assembly--generous and courteous.
16. Deliveries:  Gifts, flowers, balloon bouquets, pizzas, or other such items are not to be delivered to students at school.  These items will not be accepted in the office.
III.  Conduct on School Buses
17. Students must follow all rules and regulations pertaining to school bus behavior as set forth by the Terrebonne Parish School System and the individual bus driver.
18. Infractions of rules will result in disciplinary action and possible suspension from the bus or suspension from school.
19. Students who must ride a different bus from time to time must bring a signed note from the parent or guarding and present it to the school secretary before school.
IV.  Miscellaneous Conduct
20. Gambling is not allowed at school or at any school sponsored activity.
21. STHS is not responsible for money or valuables left unattended.  Students are discouraged from bringing anything of a valuable nature to school.  It usually cannot be safeguarded appropriately all day.
22. Students are not to deface school property (buildings, ID's, textbooks, etc.)
23. Students are not do engage in rough physical play and are not to run in the building.
24. Students are not to sell any items on campus without the permission of an administrator.
25. Students are to refrain from displays of affection such as kissing, hugging, or holding hands.
26. Radios, tape players, and compact disc players are not allowed at school.
V.  Suspensions and Expulsions
Pupils are liable for suspensions or recommended expulsion by the school principal with due process as provided in Title 17 or Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, Section 416, as amended.
Reasons:
27. Is guilty of willful disobedience;
28. Treats with intentional disrespect a teach, principal, superintendent, member, or employee of the local school board;
29. Makes against any one of them an unfounded charge;
30. Uses profane/obscene language;
31. Is guilty of immoral or vicious practices, or of conduct or habits injurious to his associates;
32. Uses or possesses tobacco or who possesses alcoholic beverages or any controlled dangerous substance governed by the Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substance Law, in any form, in school buildings, on school grounds, or on school buses owned by, contracted to, or jointly owned by any city or parish school board;
33. Disturbs the school and habitually violates any rule;
34. Cuts, defaces, or injures any part of public school buildings, any property belonging to the buildings, or any school buses owned by, contracted to, or jointly owned by any city or parish school board;
35. Writes any profane or obscene language or draws obscene pictures in or on any school material or on any public school premises, or on any fence, pole, sidewalk, or building on the way to or from school, or on any school bus, including those owned by, contracted to, or jointly owned by any city or parish school board;
36. Is found carrying firearms, knives, or other implements which can be used as weapons, the careless use of which might inflict harm or injury;
37. Throws missiles liable to injure other persons on the school grounds or while on any school bus, including those owned by, contracted to, or jointly owned by any city or parish school board;
38. Instigates or participates in fights while under school supervision;
39. Violates traffic and safety regulations;
40. Leaves the school premises without permission;
41. Leaves his classroom during class hours or detention without permission;
42. Is habitually tardy or absent; or
43. Commits any other serious offense.
Students found to be using, distributing, or in possession of weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol, and unauthorized telecommunication devices shall be recommended for expulsion as indicated in La. R.S 17:416, and shall be reported to law enforcement officials immediately.

Dress Code

Student Rights:
Students attending schools in Terrebonne Parish are required to wear uniforms to class according to Terrebonne Parish School Board Policy H-3.4.
Student Responsibilities:
To come to school fully clothed and wear clothes, which are not dangerous to health or safety, do not disrupt the learning process, and stay within school dress codes.
To dress in a way not offensive to others or inappropriate at school and at school-sponsored events, including, but not limited to, exposed underwear, saggy/baggy pants, dress promoting drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gang identification, weapons, and/or sexual behavior.
Uniforms:
Primary School Boys Dress Code (K-3):
White shirt (oxford or knit with collar), uniform navy pants (pleated, not pleated or cuff) or shorts.
Middle School Boys Dress Code (4-8):
White shirt (oxford or knit with collar), uniform khaki pants (pleated, not pleated or cuff) or shorts.
Secondary Level Boys Dress Code (9-12):
White shirt (oxford or knit with collar), uniform khaki pants (pleated, not pleated or cuff) or shorts.
Primary School Girls Dress Code (K-3):
White blouse (oxford, knit, or broadcloth with collar), uniform navy pants (pleated, not pleated or cuff), pleated skirt, shorts, skorts, or jumper.
Middle School Girls Dress Code (4-8):
White blouse (oxford, knit, or broadcloth with collar), uniform khaki pants (pleated, not pleated or cuff), pleated or straight skirt, shorts, skorts, or jumper.
Secondary Level Girls Dress Code (9-12):
White blouse (oxford, knit, or broadcloth with collar), uniform khaki pants (pleated, not pleated or cuff), pleated or straight skirt, shorts, skorts, or jumper.
