Online Netiquette Guides

Netiquette - the rules and expectations of online behavior when using E-mail, Chatting on a chat program, signing Guest Books, and using online Bulletin Boards.

Definitions of Online Terms

E-Mail - Sending and receiving messages through a computer network. To use electronic mail, you need a computer, modem or network connection, and an e-mail address. E-mail is convenient because all messages are sent and received immediately, even over long distances.

Chatting - Real-time communication between two users via computer. Once a chat has been initiated, either user can enter text by typing on the keyboard and the entered text will appear on the other user's monitor. Most networks and online services offer a chat feature.
Guest Book - Guest books allow your visitors to "sign in" and leave their names, email addresses, and any comments they have about your site. The comments will then be listed in the guest book so everyone can see all the wonderful (we hope) things people have to say.
Bulletin Board - An electronic message center. Most bulletin boards serve specific interest groups. They allow you to dial in with a modem, review messages left by others, and leave your own message if you want.
