- Montegut Middle serves students in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 from
the three bayou communities of Bourg, Montegut, and Pointe-Aux-Chenes. The present
enrollment is 535 students. Our ethnic backgrounds are varied - 72% Caucasian,
6% African
American, 1% Asian American, and 21% American Indian.

- Montegut Middle School is located in the bayou community of
Montegut, Louisiana. Three elementary schools, from unique areas feed to Montegut Middle.
The facility is 19 years old, consisting of 34 classrooms, cafeteria with a
stage area, a library with 3 offices, a faculty lounge with workroom, and an office
area with 4 inner offices.

- The student population includes both regular education (88%)
and special education (12%). Students considered "at risk" (504) make up 12% of
the total enrollment. Four percent (4%) of the total student population has been evaluated
as gifted and talented.

- The faculty consists of 44 members, 86% which are
certified. 46% have over twenty years of teaching experience and 14% have advanced
degrees. Very few leave the school, with only two non-returning teachers this school year.
70% of the classes have a student-teacher ratio of 21-27. 30% of the classes have a
ratio
of 27+ students.

- The computer lab contains 33 networked
computers; 15 networked computers are in our library and 6 stand-alone
computers for word processing; all classrooms have 1 or more
networked computers with a few computers to use as word processors.
There are 5 networked computers in the office area. The district is in
the process of updating all computers in all schools.

- According to the "Nation's Report Card" issued in
the Fall of 1999, Montegut Middle received an "Academically Above Average"
rating.
