H.L.B. Philosophy

H. L. Bourgeois High School reaffirms its dedication to the education of our students through the provision of educational experiences appropriate to their individual abilities, interests, and needs. The main responsibility of our school is to foster the development of citizens who exemplify standards of conduct which contribute to the well-being of the community.

Our school has a shared responsibility with the family and community for the development of commendable traits in terms of scholarship, leadership, and behavior. Thus, we must provide opportunities for students to develop proper mental and physical health habits, wholesome attitudes toward healthful living, and an appreciation of aesthetics.

The H. L. Bourgeois High School educational program must rededicate itself to providing students with opportunities to excel in those areas which they select as relevant to their future. The school's professional staff will closely monitor the economic and social conditions which will have direct impact upon the community, the students and their families. The existing curriculum must be made broader and more flexible under the auspices of existing local and state curricular guidelines and mandates. The classroom atmosphere must instill within each student an understanding of his personal worth and the worth of others, the acceptance of responsibility, and the manifestation of self-discipline.

Those of us who are entrusted with the academic, psychological, physical, social, and future economic well-being of the students at H. L. Bourgeois High School must foster within each of them a realization and genuine appreciation of a course of study which will reinforce basic educational skills and expand the spectrum of intrinsic, as well as extrinsic, learning.

To foster a spirit of open-mindedness, mutual understanding, respect and pride, we must seek to establish rapport among administrators, faculty, parents, students and community. We must also seek to maintain high ethical standards because all students must develop a keen awareness that H. L. Bourgeois High School is the key to a better world in which to live.
