Mission
The faculty and staff of Grand
Caillou Middle seek to provide development of the physical, intellectual,
moral and social capacities of each student so that he or she can function
as a valued member of the community. Realization that competent
reading ability and accurate computational skills are crucial to success
in an increasingly technological society, we aim to help each child
internalize the information he assimilates in his daily classes, for only
when internalization occurs can he truly understand and apply the concepts
presented.
We hope to develop within each
student a pattern of academic success providing special programs geared to
the unique problems of each individual. In addition to a basic
foundation, our academic program also includes aesthetic experiences in
instrumental music.
We believe that along with
intellectual stimulation, a sense of values relating to human
relationships should be emphasized. Such skills will be a great
benefit in making wise decisions, formulating judgments, and accepting the
responsibilities necessary to become a contributing member of the
community.
It is important that we stress
cooperative attitudes and an appreciation of the democratic way of
life. We believe that in supporting the family structure we can work
together to ensure the development of productive citizens in the future.
Therefore, in an effort to help each
student recognize his/her potential, the faculty and staff are dedicated
to developing a well-balanced individual, one who has the ability to gain
competence in basic skills and one who will grow in knowledge of himself,
his heritage, and the world around him through his experiences with the
printed page and interaction with his surroundings.
