Ellender High School Patriots

Begin filling out applications for colleges and scholarships.  Listen to announcements for information about scholarships and college open houses.  Mrs. Vice does have a few applications for scholarships in her office.  Please check with her.

Any student who participates in extra curricular activities and has a job, please check with Mrs. Vice for an application for a scholarship.

Seniors remember that it is very important to pass all of your classes.  If for any reason you do not pass a class, you will have to repeat the class if it is a requirement for graduation.  Your guidance counselor will be calling you in to discuss your schedule and future if you are in danger of failing a class.  We want all of our seniors to succeed at EMHS.

On November 21, 2008, Ms. Nicole Blanchard from L.E. Fletcher will be making a presentation in the auditorium from 8:30 – 9:00 a.m.  She will be discussing the dual enrollment program, now called the Early Start Program at Fletcher.

If you have at least a 2.75 GPA and plan on going to college, complete the application at www.kfcscholars.org beginning December 1st through February 10th.

Top Five Mistakes to Avoid on College Applications
With application season in full swing, don't let students succumb to sub-par applications.  Here, College Zapps presents the top five student application mistakes:

1.) Misspelling and Grammatical Errors

Failure to proofread, or trying to rush through your application can lead to small mistakes that can make a big -- and unfavorable -- impression. Fill out the traditional application and let your friends, parents and counselor review it.

2.) Not Reading Carefully
Read the application directions carefully before beginning. Skipping the instructions may result in an incomplete or incorrectly filled out application.

3.) Writing Illegibly
You want to put your best foot forward when applying to college. Sloppy handwriting indicates a lack of attention to detail. Type your applications when possible. If you must handwrite take your time and use a black or blue ink pen.

4.) Not Applying to Enough Schools
Applying to several schools, rather than just one or two, gives you more options. If you aren't accepted to your first choice, or if your first choice is too expensive, you have alternatives.

5.) Using an Inappropriate E-mail Address
Your e-mail address should be simple and professional. Consider using your first initial and last name. Cutegirl@funtimes.com is fine for e-mailing your friends but it won't impress the admissions officer.
